the councilwoman riding on top of a shrine e circus elephant at the arena on sunday. the photos through some critical comments online. but harris says she was accepting a circus invitation from last year to see animal conditions.


she says she was checking for injuries behind the elephant's ears, from sticks or hooks. >> well they asked if the we wanted to have a ride and i said, sure, because you know i couldn't see the back of the elephant's ears.


and i figured from up on top you could see, you know, if there is any kind of damage or scars or anything to the elephant. reporter: harris also said yes to a ride on this circus camel. the councilwoman had opposed the council president's legislation last year that would have banned


animals from being bread, caged, trained and transported solely for entertainment.
