How To Adopt A Child That Lives With You, gasping, then activate emergency responsesystem and get or call for an aed. check for the carotid pulse. check the pulse for atleast 5 seconds, but no more than 10 seconds. if the pulse is present, the start rescuebreathing. open the airway using head tilt/chin lift.give two breaths. deliver each breath in one


second duration, looking for the chest torise. if the first breath does not make the chest rise and fall, then reposition the head,i.e. head tilt/chin lift, and readminister the breaths. continue rescue breathing every 5-6 seconds,that is about 10-12 breaths per minute. deliver each breath over one second. check the carotidpulse every two minutes.
