How To Adopt A Child As A Stepparent

hi, steve kirshand yogi here with the answer totoday's adoption question. the question is:the father of the baby was given pre-birth notice of the adoption.how much time does he have to contest the adoption?under indiana law,

How To Adopt A Child As A Stepparent, if pre-birth notice isproperly given, that means that he actuallyreceived the notice, before the baby was born, the father has 30 days from the receipt of thenotice to contest the

adoption.from the receipt of the notice, notfrom the birth of the baby, but from the receiptof the notice. so, lets,as an example, if a woman identifiesthe father to kirsh & kirsh and sheallows us to give him notice of the adoption, and then delivers the baby 15 days later, the father only has another 15 days tocontest the adoption.

it is 30 days from the datehe receives the notice, not the birth of the baby.the best situation are those in whichwe meet with the birth mom more than 30 days before thebaby is born in which case we can give the fathernotice, again before the baby is bornthe time runs out before the baby is born.and everyone knows where the birth father standsbefore the baby is born. that is not alwayspossible, but that is the

way we prefer to do itbut we will react to any situation.now, let me make this clear, under indiana law themother of the child does not have to identify the father ofthe child, but if she is willing to identify the father, and we can find him and give him pre-birth notice,we will do that if that is ok with her.i hope that is helpful. yogi and i are alwayshere to answer questions as you have them.thank you.
