welcome to moomoomath where we upload a newmath video everyday. in this video i will talk about plotting fractionsand mixed numbers on a number line. before we get started lets review some rulesfor fractions on a number line. the numerator tells you how far away fromthe whole number you should go. the denominator of the fraction tells youhow many parts to divide the space in between
How To Add Benchmark Fractions, the whole numbers.lets go ahead and get started with fractions on a number line.lets work some examples. first we have is 3/4the denominator tells us how many spaces we need to have between the whole numbers 0 and1 including the 1.
we have 1 2 3 and 4.remember 1 is the same as /4 the numerator tells us how many spaces tomove over between the whole numbers. so 3/4 is plotted here.next lets plot 2/3. we have 1 2 3 because the denominator is 3we go over 2 because the numerator tells us how many spaces to go over between the wholenumbers. lets work 2 more.5/6 tells us we need 6 spaces so we will go 1 2 3 4 5 6the 1 can be written as 6 over 6 we can go over 5 spaces and here is 5/6how about if you have a mixed number? if we have 2 and 3/4we go to 2 and plot the fraction.
we divide the space into 4 spaces.we have 1 2 3 4 spaces so 3/4 is plotted here. hope that helps.remember moomoomath uploads a new math video everyday.thanks for watching.
