hey y'all it's rose. today we're going to talk about using alexaskills to initiate voice calls. it's important that you understand that youcan't use echo or dot as microphone and speaker for the call, but rather they push calls throughto your smartphone for you. at least, that's all they can do right now.
How To Activate Iphone Using Emergency Call, to kick things off, we're going to take alook at the ooma skill, and i'm going to introduce you to podcaster dave mccabe. hey, it's dave with the reset podcast. i'm gonna use my ooma to make a phone call, but i'm gonna do it with alexa, let me demonstrate.
amazon, tell ooma to call dave. calling your phone. answer it to be connected to dave. there i am. well, i gotta take this call, see ya later. thanks, dave. it's important to understand that you don'thave to buy the $99 telo to use this skill. you can use it for free. the next way to make phone calls using amazonecho is via ifttt.
there are several channels capable of makingthis happen. one being the ifttt phone call channel. "alexa, trigger call my phone." sending that to ifttt. now the call i'll receive will include a customizedmessage that i setup during the applet creation process. my favorite skill is called ask my buddy. and i'd like to thank a couple of readersfor calling this skill out and sharing your knowledge.
i very much appreciate it. i've been using it for four weeks, and itworks great. you can use it for free, though they wouldlike donations if you're so inclined. for free it will support five contacts. with a $10 donation, it supports ten for threemonths. what's cool about it is that you can contactone person with your voice or you can have it contact everybody. "alexa, tell my buddy to alert everyone." and the alert should come through on multiplephones.
also via email and text. hello, rose thibodeaux sent you an alert viaaskmybuddy.net on the amazon alexa. this alert is sent only if this person hasasked for help. i have genuine concerns regarding the useof amazon echo in an emergency situations. if that's your use case, i urge you to clickon the link below where i've detailed out pros, cons, and concerns for you to take alook at. if y'all have any questions or if you knowof a skill that i didn't think of, feel free to comment below. otherwise, i appreciate y'all spending timewith me today, and i will see you soon.
