this is part of a series of econversations from the education portfolio at uws and we'relooking at frequently asked questions aroundlearning and teaching. in my conversations with students andstaff across the university, online, via email, one of the mostcommonly asked questions at the moment
How To Airdrop Books, is how is the ipad strategy going? is itmaking any difference to student learning at uws? i'll start my answer to that question byreferring to a
well known author by the name of sir kenrobinson, and he talks about learning to becreative, he talks a lot about encouraging a culture of innovation acrossorganisations in order to foster creativity. and for me that's really what ourblended learning strategy is all about and it lies at the heartof our ipad strategy. at the start of 2013 we had an ipad included in the enrolment packfor all our first year undergraduate
students and we also made sure our academic staffhad ipad's. it signals a commitment that we have tomaking sure that our curriculum is renewed, that it's relevant, that itscreative and innovative, and that we have in the hands of ourstudents and our staff the tools that they need to be able to learn and teach effectively. so what ishappening across the school's? well there are some terrific examples on howacademic staff are using ipad's.in the school ofhumanities and communication arts for
example, they're using augmented reality apps, they'reusing graphic design apps. in the school of science and health, in largelecture theatres they're using the ipad to provide students with instant feedback on their learning. inthe school of law they've developed their own app, a student app at and that's been received with real support and an enthusiasm fromstudents and staff. in the school of computing engineeringmathematics they're using ipad's for
graphic communication and design and in the school of medicine they're using ipad's in clinical settings. so there are somereally good examples of how ipads are being used across disciplines acrossschools to support student learning. we knowthere's always room for improvement so we're evaluating our use of ipadsas part of the broader blended learning strategy and i encourage you to use surveyfeedback or to provide feedback in interviews with students and staff let us know what's working well let usknow the areas for improvement.
i also encourage you to have a look atthis site the learning teaching site has a lot of resources around blendedlearning, use of ipads for students and staff. it includes resources for thebeginners just starting out as well as some quiteadvanced examples of how are our academic colleagues areintegrating ipad's into their teaching.please also use thefeedback button on this site to let us know what other frequently asked questionsyou'd like us to deal with in future
econversations.
