adoption questionsby: kirsh & kirsh, p.c. steven kirshadoption attorney hi, steve kirsh and yogi here with the answerto today's adoption question. the question is:"i'm pregnant. is there any money involved if i proceed with an adoption?"

How To Adopt A Child When You Have No Money, well, yes and no. under indiana law, adoptive parents can helpwith medical expenses, counseling expenses. those kinds of things.they can also help with some limited amount of living expenses.that is, monies to help a woman get through

her pregnancy.lost wages... rent...really, anything she needs to get through the pregnancy.indiana law limits living expenses to $3,000 during the pregnancy.so, it is not the kind of thing were maybe you've seen on television or in the movies where a woman getsthousands of dollars for proceeding with an adoption.that is just not the case. in indiana that would be called "baby selling".and, frankly, i'm not sure that a birth mom would want to go through her life knowingthat she received money for her baby.

that is not the way she wants to rememberwhat she did. adoption, when done properly, is a selfless.i said selfless, not selfish. a selfless act, where a woman puts her needs behind thoseof her child. she wants to do what is best for her childand provide her child with a wonderful future and a loving home.that is not something a woman does for money. i hope that is helpful.i am always happy to answer questions as you have them.thank you
