How To Adopt A Child From Haiti

[dad] still i can'trest til i paint my? [kids] chest! [narrator] the pope familyof columbia, tennessee shares a special bond... [caeden] that's a rude word.

How To Adopt A Child From Haiti, [family laughs] [narrator] ...and a specialconnection to haiti. [caeden] we pray forthem every time. [kenson] we prayfor them at night.

[narrator] in 2002, bill andbronwen pope, and daughters hannah and noe, adopted babykenson, and a year later, baby caeden, from haiti. [bronwen pope] this was fromcaeden our youngest son. he said, "thank you momand dad for letting me be your son and adopting meand letting me have a family and letting me have awonderful family." that just blessed me, ya know? [caeden] i didn't evensay anything about youin this letter.

[kenson] i know. [narrator] the popes visit haitioften on medical missions, and to work in orphanages. [bill pope] if everyone justdecided to help one person, one family, it would make a hugedifference in that country. [narrator] day-to-day survivalhas always been difficult in the island nationneighboring the u.s. the earthquake in january2010 made matters worse, says bronwen.

[bronwen pope] peoplewho did have homes, who did have resources nolonger have resources. i met a doctor who was livingin a tent because his arm was crushed and hecan no longer work. so it's not just whatwe think of as the poor. everyone now is struggling. [narrator] in the weeksfollowing the quake, all eyes were on haiti. aid poured in fromaround the world.

but bronwen says humanattention spans are short. [bronwen pope] i was there sevenmonths after the earthquake and the cameras are gone and peopleare gone, and they're left. [narrator] friends fromthe popes' church, hillsboro united methodist, wanted to do something. [sewing machine] church members say their goalwas to sew 100 dresses for girls at a haitian orphanage. [cherry lane darken] allof us can't go to haiti

we can all doour own part. and i think this wassomething we could do. [narrator] cut from pillowcasesor cloth, and embellished with ribbon and buttons, eachdress is one-of-a kind. [betty hughes] we can rememberas little girls ourselves how we enjoyed new clothing. and that's why we've chosennot to make them all alike, so each little girlcan be an individual. [bronwen pope] just soshe knows, somebodymade this for you.

somebody's caring aboutyou and remembering youand praying for you. [narrator] the church has moreplans to partner with haiti. [cherry lane darken] somebodyasked about the little boys, and so another part of this goalis to be able to develop a little shorts pattern that wecan make some shorts especially for the little boys. [bronwen pope] we're new at thischurch but this congregation has heard my heart and isexcited about haiti. it feels good that people areexcited and passionate about

the things i'm passionate about.
