How To Adopt A Blind Child

asl, american sign language, i chosethat, because at the age of seven, doing cochlear implants with him, hisbrain had already... i can't say. it's very difficult. you want to do acochlear implants with a child before the age of five if they're going tohave any language development. he also has a repaired cleft palate,so that it made it very difficult for

How To Adopt A Blind Child, any speech process. so we did do thecochlear implant when he was about eight when we knew his vision was going tobe poor. that failed a year and a half later, so we discussed with him whetherhe wanted to do a double implant, and he decided yes, he wanted to do twoimplants. at that time, you know,

we made sure that it was what he wanted, because he was old enough to make the decision. and so, we went ahead with thesurgery, and after about six months to a year, we started noticing that he didn'twant to wear the implants or he didn't want to wear the sound processors, andwe would find that he was taking them off. so, we let him, you know. we askedhim, "do you not like hearing?" and he's like, "no, it's too loud."so, we had a discussion with the school which, you know, they kindof were like, "are you sure?" we're like, "yes, this is what he wants. he wantsto be deaf." he does not like sound processors, so we thought we just want tomake up his mind. i mean, it's his body.

he was deaf for eight years.
