How To Add Fractions On A Scientific Calculator

a scientific calculator with a fraction key can be a great help in reducingfractions to lowest terms. i'm going to start with the ti-30xawith a single line display. and let's try number one

How To Add Fractions On A Scientific Calculator, nine forty-fifths...usually we would have tofigure out what number can be divided into each of the numerator and thedenominator, but the fraction... the scientific calculator

will do that for us; 9 fraction key 45. press enter or equals and it reduces forus to lowest terms; one-fifth is the same value as nine forty-fifths but the numbers are as simple aspossible. so we'll try number five, 16 fraction key 18. press equals and i'm reduced to eight ninths. i have one extra problem in here thatwas not in your book, let's see if the numbers that arethis big

can be handled on this calculator. 300 fraction key 1080... you'll notice ican't get that final zero to display, so any answer i get here will not becorrect. you need to to this one on your own byhand as shown in the book. let's now also look at the type ofcalculator with a slightly larger display a two-line display. the ti-30xiis 9 equals and it's reduced to one fifth. it maintains what i typed in on thefirst line,

it gives me the answer in lowest termson the second line. number five, we have 16 fraction key 18 and it reduces quickly to eight ninths. let's seeif this one will handle numbers that are this big; 300 fraction key 1080. press enter yes! i reduced to five eighteenths. i if you get any much bigger though itwill not handle it.

and so there is a limit to the size ofthe fractions you can use with the fraction key on thesecalculators.
