How To Add Fractions Math Meeting

[music] (male) alright, we have tofind the area of the figure. and, i know someformulas to find area... like the area of a triangle, rectangle, trapezoid, circle... i don't necessarily know a special formula for this figure.

How To Add Fractions Math Meeting, however, if i look at it carefully, these are 90 degree angles here. let's see. it appears that if i were to just kind of extend this down here. i could actually look at this figureas a rectangle and as a triangle. and i know how to find the area of a rectangle and a triangle.

so if i find the areaof the rectangle part, and then i find the area of the triangle part. and add that together, i willknow the area of the entire figure. so, let's do that. first of all, it looks like this is 2 ft on this side, and this is 3ft on that side. so for the rectangle, we use area = length x width or base times height. in this case, it's going to be2ft times 3ft. and so the area is 6 sq feet.

that's how much this is right here.6 sq ft in that area. now for the triangle, remember that comes into a 90 degree angle there triangle i recall the area formula isarea-1/2 *b*h now the base goes from here to here. don't be fooled. it's not 10ft! 10 ft is all the way across. so, if it's 2ft from here to here. and 10 ft all the way across.this measurement must be 8ft. and for the height of this triangle it would be 3ft plus 5 more feet.so it would be a total of 8ft.

so actually, this triangle is an isoceles triangle. ok, so now area = 1/2 and the base is 8ft, times the height which is 8ft. and now i can either just multiply these two and then cut it in half. maybe i'll just do that. so it would be 8x8 is 64 sq ft times 1/2... and you get the area is 32 sq ft(of the triangle). ok, so now i'm going to take those two measurements, 6 sq ft and the 32 sq ft andi'm gonna to add them together to find my final answer. so...

i just figured out that the inside here is 32 sq ft in that area... (choo, choo, choo. choo, choo, choo) and i'm gonna add it all together. so i have the 32 sq ft for the triangle. plus the 6 sq ft for the rectangle.which equals a total 38 sq ft. so the area of the figure is 38 sq ft.[music] that's it.thank you!
