to calculate a problem involving division. holding the card in this way shows the sharing or partition model of division. when we fold it the other way, we show the grouping or quotition model of division. here we know the number in each row but you ask the students to tellyou the number of equal rows or groups. this strategy really make sense. i see now that students must first know their multiplication facts beforelearning the related division facts.
